AFTERMATH was born literally in the aftermath of a catastrophic storm.
After hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief teams began the overwhelming task of
bringing relief, resources, and rescue to the victims of the disaster. In an
amazing response effort people moved into the devastation in an attempt to
help people rebuild their lives. As people began to reach out for help it
was discovered that there was no standard infrastructure in place to track
the calls for help.

Due to the nature of the crisis this was all done manually. While the system
worked and disaster relief took place, this also put a tremendous strain on the
organizational abilities of people on site, who themselves were in the midst of a disaster.

It was in this high stress environment that a small application was put
together to allow the relief coordinator to track volunteer relief groups and
assign them to disaster victims needing assistance. This resource was not only
helpful but also formed the framework that has enabled the disaster relief effort in
Ocean Springs to continue months into the recovery.
As part of disaster preparedness planning Covenant Community Church is now
partnering with the Mississippi Baptist Disaster Relief Organization to prepare
systems that can be deployed immediately in the event of a disaster.
We are pleased to have partnered with PlanetJ in this effort and selected WOW
because of the strength of it's framework, and the ability for rapid development.
The robustness of the framework would allow future expansion for other states as
well as integration in other systems.
